Can I convert a song to violin notes?
Yes. Upload the song, keep Violin selected, and Songscription writes the violin line as sheet music in treble clef. If the recording has no violin in it, try the lead sheet output instead, which writes the main melody with chord symbols above it.
How accurate is violin transcription?
Violin is in beta. A clear solo, or a violin sitting on top of the mix, transcribes best. Vibrato, slides between positions and fast double stops are the places to check, and the editor lets you correct them note by note.
Can I transcribe a violin part from a YouTube video?
Yes. Paste a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link and the audio is pulled automatically. Video files in MP4, MOV and WebM work too, along with MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC and M4A audio.
Can I change the key for a student?
Yes. Transpose the score in the editor and the notes, playback and piano roll move together. Keep the open G in mind: nothing on a violin sounds lower, so moving a tune down can push its lowest notes off the instrument.

How do I get violin sheet music from a recording?

What range and notation does a violin part use?
The violin reads treble clef and is not a transposing instrument, so the written notes are the sounding notes. Its four strings shape every part, and knowing which string a passage lives on helps you sanity check the transcription.

What should I check after transcribing a violin part?
Look first at the places where violin playing is most expressive, because expression is what an automatic transcription has to interpret.

- Vibrato, which should read as one held note rather than a wobble of short ones
- Shifts and slides, where a glissando may show up as a few quick passing notes
- Double stops and chords, where one of the two pitches can drop out
- Pizzicato passages, short and plucked, whose rhythm may need tidying
- Trills and grace notes, often written out as fast separate notes
Who uses violin transcription?
Students working out a fiddle tune they heard at a session, teachers preparing a part for a pupil, and players learning a string line from a pop or film song all start from a recording rather than a printed part.
Teachers often move a tune into an easier key before handing it out, and the transpose sheet music tool does that quickly. Bowings and fingerings are yours to add, by pencil on the printout or in notation software after a MusicXML export.
Is the violin model in beta, and can it transcribe a whole band?
Violin is in beta, shown by the Beta badge in the instrument picker. In single instrument mode it isolates the violin from the full mix and ignores everything else, so you get one clean part rather than a crowded score.
Multi-Instrument (beta) is the option when you want every part at once: one pass over the recording gives separate parts for keys, guitars, bass, strings, brass, winds, voice and drums, with violin, viola and cello each recognized. For the cleanest fiddle line on its own, single instrument mode is still the best route.
