Ben Webster

Ben Webster was a tenor saxophonist from Kansas City, Missouri, born in 1909, and one of the most celebrated figures in jazz. He played with Duke Ellington's orchestra during the swing era and recorded alongside Billie Holiday, Johnny Hodges, and many others. His playing was admired for its warm, breathy tone on ballads and a harder, driving quality on up-tempo material. He spent his later years in Europe, where he remained active until his death in Amsterdam in 1973.
