About Us
Hi! If you've found this page, you're the kind of person who cares about the people behind the product so we wanted to share a bit about our founding story.
Songscription turns any audio into sheet music and MIDI. We built it because we're a bunch of passionate (if not particularly skilled) musicians who are also tech nerds that were tired of not being able to find the notes to the songs we wanted to play.
Katie, Alex, and I met in a class at Stanford focused on building a start-up in music education. After speaking with hundreds of musicians and music educators, we realized we weren't alone in our struggle of finding sheet music. So we went looking for solutions, and found an academic paper by Tim, whose research had cracked a novel way to convert audio to MIDI and sheet music. We reached out, asked him to join the team, and may or may not have had to sneak into an academic conference (ISMIR 2024 in San Francisco) to convince him — sorry to the organizers. We incorporated Songscription in December 2024 and have been building ever since.
A few things we stand for:
- Live music is the past, present, and future — we're building tools to make learning, creating, and sharing music easier than ever, so more people can play it
- Built by and for musicians — We think that when it comes to building music technology, musicians can just duet better (pun intended). Because we all play an instrument, we know what musicians actually need
- Always have a sense of humor — see if you can find the puns and easter eggs hidden around the site … and if you have ideas for ones we should add please share them with us :)
