How do I convert MusicXML to MIDI?
Upload the .musicxml or .mxl file to Songscription and a MIDI file generates from the score automatically. Play it back to check it, then download the .mid. The upload and conversion are free, and MuseScore, Sibelius, Finale, and Dorico exports all work.
Can I convert a PDF of sheet music to MIDI?
No. Songscription cannot read PDFs, photos, or paper scores. If the piece exists as a recording, transcribe the recording to MIDI instead. If the PDF came from notation software, export MusicXML from that program and upload it; the MusicXML converts to MIDI directly.
What is the difference between MIDI and MusicXML?
MIDI stores the performance: which notes, when, and how hard. MusicXML stores the notation: key signatures, rests, note spelling, layout. DAWs speak MIDI; notation editors speak MusicXML. Converting MusicXML to MIDI keeps the notes and timing while leaving the engraving behind.
Can I edit the result before exporting?
Yes. The score opens in the built-in editor, so a wrong octave or a note you want gone gets fixed in the browser before the MIDI ever reaches your DAW. Big rewrites can go the other way too: export MusicXML and finish in your notation software.
How do I convert MusicXML to MIDI?
Upload the score and the MIDI generates from it. Two honest paths lead to a .mid file here: a MusicXML score converts directly, and a recording of the piece transcribes with AI. A PDF or a photo of sheet music is the one thing that does not work; Songscription cannot read those, and the section below covers what to do instead.

No file? Convert the recording instead
If a recording of the piece exists, transcribing it is often the faster road, and it is immune to every problem a paper score has: no missing pages, no smudged accidentals, no scan quality at all. Upload the mp3 or paste a link, and the AI writes the performance straight into MIDI.

Have a PDF or paper score?
Songscription cannot scan sheet music. A PDF, a photo, or the paper on your stand cannot be read here, and no setting changes that. Two real alternatives: if the piece has ever been recorded, transcribe the recording, and if the PDF was exported from notation software, get the MusicXML out of the same program and upload that instead. Either route ends in the same downloadable MIDI.
