General
What is Songscription?
Songscription is an AI-powered platform that turns audio into sheet music, MIDI, guitar tabs, and an interactive piano roll. You can upload an audio or video file (MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A, MP4, MOV, and more), paste a YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok link, record directly in your browser, or import a MIDI or MusicXML file to edit and convert. We transcribe piano, guitar, bass, double bass, violin, flute, trumpet, saxophone, drums, and vocals, and we can also create piano cover arrangements of a song. Every transcription can be edited note by note, viewed as a piano roll, and automatically simplified to the right difficulty for your playing level. Export the result as PDF, MIDI, MusicXML, or Guitar Pro.
Who is Songscription.ai for?
Musicians, educators, composers, and music learners looking to convert recordings into notation tend to be our most frequent users. We support piano, guitar, bass, double bass, violin, flute, trumpet, saxophone, drums, vocals, and more. We also have many users who come to us for audio-to-MIDI or MIDI-to-score conversion.
Availability
Is Songscription.ai available globally?
Yes! Songscription.ai is available worldwide. You can upload files from any location, and we'll generate your sheet music, MIDI, and guitar tablature in minutes. We know that some of our users either don't read sheet music or prefer to see the notes in a different format, so we also auto-generate an interactive piano roll for each transcription. We've recently added chord detection, piano cover arrangements, and automatic simplification that adjusts a transcription to your playing level, with full multi-instrument arrangement on the way.
Do you support local music styles or instruments?
Our transcription is optimized for Western notation and works best with instruments like piano, guitar, bass, double bass, violin, flute, trumpet, saxophone, drums, and vocals (with more instruments coming soon). Many users from non-Western regions have successfully transcribed traditional and regional styles and genres of songs. We're actively expanding our models based on user demand, so feel free to suggest an instrument or different notation through our feedback form!
Does Songscription work on my phone? Is there an app?
Yes, Songscription runs in your mobile browser, so you can upload, transcribe, and view your results on your phone. We're also building a companion iOS app, Anything Piano, that lets you learn any song on an interactive piano roll with real-time feedback. It's in early access, and you can find it at playanything.com/anythingpiano.
Features
Can Songscription give me the piano notes for any song?
Yes! We've added the 'piano cover' mode, which will create an online piano score arrangement of any song for piano. This makes it easy to get accurate piano sheet music from your favorite recordings.
How should beginners use Songscription?
We recommend finding an easy piano song that you'd like to learn, running it through Songscription, and using our Piano Roll to practice learning the notes. If a piece feels too hard, you can automatically simplify any transcription or piano cover to an easier level that matches where you are, so beginners can start playing right away without needing to read traditional notation.
What if I can't read music notation?
Our virtual piano roll is very intuitive! You can use it to figure out which notes to play, even if you aren't able to read traditional notation. The visual interface makes learning accessible for everyone.
Will Songscription give me the chords?
Yes, our AI will try to determine which chords are being played at each point in the performance. This helps you understand the harmonic structure of the piece you're learning.
Can I edit the transcription if a note is wrong?
Yes. Every transcription opens in an editor where you can fix pitches, move or delete notes, reassign notes between the left and right hand, and adjust timing, either in the sheet music view or the piano roll. Your edits are saved to the transcription, and you can re-export a corrected PDF, MIDI, MusicXML, or Guitar Pro file whenever you like.
How accurate is Songscription?
Accuracy is highest on clean recordings of a single instrument, like a solo piano or guitar track. Busy mixes, heavy background noise, or many instruments playing at once are harder, so results there may need some cleanup. Because you can edit every note directly on the platform, you can quickly correct anything the model misses. Our models also keep improving, so it's worth re-running an older file every few months.
Upload, File Support, Export, and Sharing
What audio formats can I upload?
You can upload audio files (MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, M4A) and video files (MP4, MOV, WebM) that we pull the audio from. You can also paste a YouTube, Instagram, or TikTok link, record audio directly in your browser, or import a MIDI or MusicXML file to edit and convert.
Can I turn a YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram video into sheet music?
Yes. Paste the link into Songscription, choose the instrument you want, and we'll pull the audio and transcribe it into sheet music, MIDI, tabs, and a piano roll. This works for YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram links, so you can turn a clip or sound you found online and have the rights to into notation you can actually play.
What export formats are supported?
You can download as a PDF (printable sheet music), MIDI (for DAWs like Ableton, Logic Pro, FL Studio, and GarageBand), MusicXML (for MuseScore, Finale, Sibelius, Dorico, etc.), and Guitar Pro (for Guitar Pro, PowerTab, etc.). All formats are generated from the same transcription, so you can download multiple from a single upload.
Does Songscription work with multi-instrument recordings?
We can transcribe a single instrument at a time from a multi-instrument recording. For example, if you upload a piece with a piano and violin and put it through the piano model, we will give you the piano music for it. You can then run it again through our violin model and we can give you the violin music. We don't yet support full band or orchestral transcription, but it is on our roadmap, so stay tuned!

Privacy & Ownership
Is my audio private? Do you use my uploads to train your AI?
By default, we may use the audio and transcriptions you submit to help improve our AI models. Plus and Pro subscribers can opt out at any time from account settings, after which we won't use your data for model training. Your transcriptions stay tied to your account and are only shared when you choose to share a transcription's public link. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Who owns the sheet music I create, and can I use it?
The transcription we generate is yours to download, edit, print, and use. You're responsible for making sure you have the rights to the underlying song, since the original composition and recording may still be protected by copyright. If you plan to sell, publish, or perform an arrangement publicly, check the rights to the source material first.
Troubleshooting
My transcription wasn't accurate — what should I do?
First, try a cleaner recording with less background noise and better instrument isolation; for a full-band track, using a stem-splitting tool to isolate one instrument first helps a lot. You can also fix any missed notes directly in our editor rather than starting over. Our models improve continuously, so re-running the same file in a few months often gives a better result.
