Generate bass tabs from any song with AI. The bass line is lifted from the full mix and written as tab plus notation in standard tuning, with Guitar Pro export.

Features

Finds the Bass Under the Band

Low notes hide beneath kick drums and rhythm guitars. Choose Bass Guitar and the model listens for that line inside the finished mix, so you skip the stem splitting.

Fret Numbers With the Rhythm

Tab tells you where each note sits on the neck, and the matching staff shows pitch and duration, so you can count a syncopated groove instead of guessing it.

Guitar Pro, PDF, MIDI, MusicXML

Open the line in Guitar Pro to loop a tricky bar, print the PDF, or take the MIDI into a DAW to rebuild the part with your own bass sound.

"Very accurate and time saving tool. Jazz piano student here, I honestly didn't expect any transcription AI to perform well on the piece I gave it based on its difficulty and fast pace, but songscription AI proved me wrong."

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get bass tabs from a song?

Upload the song or paste a link, choose Bass Guitar, and Songscription isolates the bass from the mix and writes it as tab with notation alongside. Bass is in beta, so listen through against the record before you learn it. Export to Guitar Pro, PDF, MIDI or MusicXML.

What tuning do the bass tabs use?

Standard tuning. The tab assumes a standard tuned bass, so a line recorded in a drop or detuned setup may need a few positions moved, either in the Songscription editor or after you export to Guitar Pro.

Can I convert an MP3 to bass tab?

Yes. MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC and M4A files all work, as do MP4, MOV and WebM videos. You can also paste a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link and the audio is pulled for you.

How is this different from the guitar tab generator?

The export formats are the same, but the Bass Guitar setting listens for the low line rather than the guitar part. If you want the guitar from the same song, run it again with guitar selected, or use Multi-Instrument (beta) to get a separate part for every instrument, guitar and bass included, from one pass over the recording.

Is the bass tab generator free to try?

Yes. You can transcribe unlimited 30-second clips for free, with a free trial for longer ones. Paid plans give you more transcription time and support for longer files.

How do I turn a song into bass tab?

Choose Bass Guitar, add the song, and the line is written as tab paired with standard notation. Because the model isolates the bass from the full mix, you can start from the finished record rather than a solo bass track.

  1. Load the track. Drop in an audio or video file, paste a link, or record yourself playing along in the browser.
  2. Keep Bass Guitar selected. This page presets the bass model, so the low end is what gets transcribed.
  3. Check it against the record. Loop sections, fix any note that landed on the wrong string, then export to Guitar Pro or PDF.

What does a bass transcription include?

You get one bass line in several shapes, each suited to a different job. Pick the format that matches what you do next.

TablatureString and fret for each note, in standard tuningGetting the line under your fingers quickly

Why are bass lines hard to hear, and where can the tab slip?

Bass shares its range with the kick drum, and on small speakers its fundamental can almost disappear, which is why working a line out by ear is slow. A model hearing the whole spectrum follows the line more steadily, but that same overlap explains where it can stumble.

Our walkthrough on how to transcribe a bass line covers the ear training side, and the bass line transcription tools we compared lays out the options side by side.

  • Octave jumps, where a note an octave up can be read as the root
  • Dead notes and muted thumps, which are percussive rather than pitched
  • Slides and hammer ons, which may appear as separately plucked notes
  • Fingering choices: the tab picks one position, and you may prefer another string

Which recordings give the cleanest bass tab?

Tracks where the bass has its own space in the mix give the clearest lines. Fingerstyle and picked parts in rock, funk, soul and pop tend to come through well, while a heavily distorted bass or one doubled by a synth leaves the model more to infer.

Need the guitar or keys too? The guitar tab generator handles guitar on its own, and Multi-Instrument (beta) writes a separate part for each instrument in the recording, bass included, in one pass. For the cleanest bass line on its own, single instrument mode on this page is still the best route.

Is bass transcription in beta?

Yes. Bass Guitar carries a Beta badge, as every instrument besides piano does. In single instrument mode the model isolates the bass from the full mix and ignores the rest, and the editor is there for anything you want to change: fix a pitch, move a note to another beat, delete a stray, or transpose the line.

Annie, the AI assistant in the editor, can make a change you describe in plain words, such as fixing a wrong note, and you can review or undo it. Upright players should pick Double Bass in the instrument picker, which is listed separately from Bass Guitar.
