Transcribe a mixed recording in one pass. Multi-Instrument (beta) writes parts for keys, guitar, bass, strings, brass, winds, voice and drums as score and MIDI.

Features

A Part for Each Instrument

Keys, guitars, bass, strings, brass, woodwinds, saxophones, synths, voice and drums each get their own part, so you see how the whole arrangement fits together instead of working through it one line at a time.

Keys Split Into Two Hands

Every keyboard track comes back divided into left and right hand, laid out on a grand staff that a keyboard player can read straight away.

Score and MIDI Together

Download the multi-staff score as PDF or MusicXML, or take the multitrack MIDI into a DAW. It is the same transcription, whichever format you need.

"Very accurate and time saving tool. Jazz piano student here, I honestly didn't expect any transcription AI to perform well on the piece I gave it based on its difficulty and fast pace, but songscription AI proved me wrong."

Frequently Asked Questions

Is multi-instrument transcription free to try?

Yes. You can transcribe unlimited 30-second clips for free, with a free trial for longer ones. Paid plans give you more transcription time and support for longer files.

Which instruments does Multi-Instrument transcribe?

It recognizes nine instrument families: keys (piano, electric piano, organ, vibraphone, marimba and similar), guitars, bass, strings (violin, viola, cello, contrabass, harp, timpani), brass (trumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn), reeds and winds (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone sax, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, flute, piccolo, recorder), synths, voice and drums. Sung parts come back as one voice track, so a choir is not split into separate soprano, alto, tenor and bass parts. It is in beta, and the more instruments overlap in the same range, the more cleanup to expect.

What do I download after a multi-instrument transcription?

You get the same exports as any other transcription: a PDF of the multi-staff score, a MusicXML file for notation software, and MIDI with each instrument on its own track. Keyboard parts are split into left and right hand.

Should I use Multi-Instrument or pick a single instrument?

Use Multi-Instrument when you want every part of the recording at once. Pick a single instrument when one part matters most. In that mode the model isolates the chosen instrument from the full mix and ignores everything else, which is the way to get that one part as clean as possible.

Does Multi-Instrument work from a YouTube link?

Yes. Paste a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link, or upload an audio or video file, or record in your browser. Multi-Instrument runs on the audio the same way in each case.

What does multi-instrument transcription do?

It listens to a mixed recording once and writes a separate part for each instrument it hears, across the nine instrument families in the table below. You get a full score with a staff for each part, plus a multitrack MIDI file with the same parts on their own tracks. Keyboard parts are split into left and right hand.

Multi-Instrument is in beta and open to every account. Rock and pop bands, worship teams with strings, jazz combos with sax and trumpet, horn sections, string quartets and film or game cues with strings and brass all suit it. It is not a full-orchestra engine: the more instruments overlap in the same range, the more cleanup to expect, and a choir comes back as one voice track rather than separate voice parts. Our multi-instrument transcription guide walks through a full session from upload to export.

Instrument familyWhat Multi-Instrument recognizes

BrassTrumpet, trombone, tuba, French horn, brass section

Which route should I pick: Multi-Instrument, one instrument, or an arrangement?

Pick Multi-Instrument when you want every instrument written out, single-instrument mode when one part matters most, and a piano cover or lead sheet when you want the song reduced for a single player.

The trade-offs between transcribing every part together and transcribing them separately get their own write-up in per-instrument vs one-pass transcription.

RouteWhat you getPick it when
Multi-Instrument (beta)A multi-staff score and multitrack MIDI with each instrument in the mix on its own partYou want to see, play or study every part of an arrangement, from a rock band to a small ensemble
Single instrumentOne part, isolated from the full mix while everything else is ignoredYou only need the bass line, the violin part or the vocal, and you want it as clean as possible
Piano cover or lead sheetA solo piano version of the song, or the melody on one staff with chord symbols aboveYou want the song for one keyboard player, or a compact chart to read from

How do I transcribe every instrument in a song?

Upload the recording on this page. It is already set to Multi-Instrument, so there is no instrument picker to get through, and the score opens in the editor with each part on its own staff when the transcription finishes.

  1. Bring in the recording. Upload an MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC or M4A file or a video, or paste a YouTube, TikTok or Instagram link.
  2. Let one pass run. The model works through the mix once and gives each instrument it hears its own part, from keys and guitars to strings, brass, winds, voice and drums.
  3. Check each part. Play the score back next to the recording and fix stray notes in the editor. Beta parts often need a little cleanup.
  4. Export. Download the score as PDF or MusicXML, or grab the multitrack MIDI for your DAW.

How good are the parts while the feature is in beta?

Treat the result as a strong first draft rather than a finished engraving. Busy mixes, doubled lines, heavy effects and many instruments in the same range, such as a full string and brass section, are where a one-pass transcription is most likely to put a note on the wrong part or miss it altogether.

Every part opens in the editor, where you can fix pitches, move or delete notes, adjust timing and reassign notes between the two hands of the keyboard part. Annie, the assistant built into the editor, can handle plain-language requests such as fixing a wrong note. If one instrument really matters, run it again in single-instrument mode and compare.

  • Cleaner recordings give cleaner parts, so a studio mix beats a phone video from the back of the room
  • Check neighboring parts first when instruments share a register, like guitar and keys or viola and cello
  • Switch to single-instrument mode when one part needs to be as accurate as possible
  • Start with a free 30-second clip to hear how your song comes out
