Carlos Gardel

Carlos Gardel was a French-born Argentine singer, composer, and actor who grew up in Buenos Aires and became the defining voice of tango. His rich baritone and dramatic phrasing shaped the genre in the early twentieth century, and his influence spread through recordings, radio, and film across Latin America and beyond. He died in a plane crash in 1935, but his recordings have remained in print ever since.
