Charlie Palmieri

Charlie Palmieri was a Puerto Rican American pianist and bandleader born in the South Bronx in 1927, the older brother of Eddie Palmieri. He trained at the Juilliard School as a child and went on to become one of the central figures in Latin music in New York, working across salsa, mambo, cha-cha, charanga, and Latin jazz. Colleagues called him 'The Giant of the Keyboard' for his technical command and his range as a soloist, arranger, and ensemble leader.
