Conchita Piquer

Conchita Piquer (born Concepción Piquer López in Valencia, Spain, in 1906) was one of the most celebrated Spanish singers of the twentieth century. She built her career around copla, a dramatic form of Spanish popular song, and her interpretations of works by the songwriting trio Quintero, León, and Quiroga, including 'Ojos verdes' and 'Tatuaje', became defining recordings of the genre. She began performing internationally as a teenager, appearing in New York alongside artists such as Al Jolson and Fred Astaire, before becoming a central figure in Spanish popular music through the mid-century decades.
