Johnnie Ray

Johnnie Ray was a singer from Oregon who sat at the crossroads of the crooner era and early rock and roll, recording through the 1950s and into the 1960s. He lost most of his hearing as a teenager but built a career on an intensely emotional vocal style that made him a major star on both sides of the Atlantic. His influence stretched far enough that Bob Dylan cited him as one of his earliest inspirations.
