King Ernest

King Ernest, born Ernest Baker in Natchez, Mississippi, was a blues and soul singer who cut his teeth in the Chicago club scene of the 1950s and 1960s, sharing stages with Tyrone Davis, Buddy Guy, and Howlin' Wolf. He later relocated to Los Angeles, where he rebuilt his career after retiring from a day job with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, drawing on a style rooted in the deep soul sounds of Bobby Bland, Junior Parker, and the Stax and Hi Records era. His powerful vocals and energetic stage presence earned him a loyal following across Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles before his death in 2000.
