Link Wray

Link Wray was a guitarist and songwriter born in Dunn, North Carolina in 1929, with Shawnee heritage on his mother's side. He is credited with inventing the power chord, a technique that would become a cornerstone of rock and roll, heavy metal, and punk. His 1958 instrumental 'Rumble' was banned by some radio stations yet still charted, and musicians like Pete Townshend and Jimmy Page have pointed to him as a direct influence.
