María de Lourdes, born María de Lourdes Pérez López in Mexico City in 1939, was a Mexican singer who performed rancheras, boleros, and other forms of traditional Mexican music. She built her career during the Golden Age of Mexican cinema and was celebrated in Mexico as 'The Voice of Mexico' and 'The Ambassador of the Mexican Song'. Her album Mujer Importante earned a Grammy nomination for Best Mexican-American Performance in 1986, and she remained one of the most recognized voices in traditional Mexican popular music until her death in 1997.
