Marian McPartland

Marian McPartland was an English-born jazz pianist and composer who spent most of her career in the United States after marrying cornetist Jimmy McPartland in 1945. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music in London and went on to record prolifically, founded her own label (Halcyon Records) in 1969, and hosted the long-running NPR program Piano Jazz from 1978 to 2011. She received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004 and was named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master in 2000.
