Marvin & Johnny

Marvin & Johnny were an American doo-wop and R&B duo from Los Angeles, built around singer and saxophonist Marvin Phillips, who was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Phillips partnered most often with Emory Perry, though the name covered several different vocal pairings over the years. The duo recorded for Specialty and Modern Records in the early 1950s, scoring a handful of Top Ten R&B hits with a sound that drew on doo-wop and the jump blues style of artists like Louis Jordan.
