Nappy Brown

Nappy Brown, born Napoleon Brown Goodson Culp in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1929, was a blues and R&B shouter whose powerful voice made him one of the more distinctive figures in 1950s rhythm and blues. He scored several top ten R&B singles during that decade and is widely credited as a connecting thread between early R&B and soul music. After years away from recording, he returned to performing in the 1980s and continued making music into his later years.
