Ray Charles Robinson was born in Albany, Georgia in 1930 and grew up in Florida, going blind as a young child. He was a singer, pianist, and songwriter who worked across soul, R&B, gospel, blues, jazz, and country, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential American musicians of the 20th century. His career stretched over five decades and produced some of the most recognizable recordings in popular music.
