The Drifters
The Drifters are an American R&B and pop vocal group formed in New York in 1953, originally assembled as a backing group for Clyde McPhatter. The group went through many lineup changes over the years but remained one of the most consistent hitmakers on Atlantic Records through the late 1950s and into the 1960s, placing songs on both the R&B and pop charts. Their sound drew on gospel, doo-wop, and orchestrated pop, and they helped shape the direction of soul and rhythm-and-blues during that era.
