The Premiers

The Premiers were a garage rock band formed in 1962 in San Gabriel, California, by a group of young Mexican-American musicians including brothers Lawrence and John Perez. They played uptempo R&B-flavored rock and roll and were part of the East Los Angeles Chicano music scene of the early 1960s. Their 1964 cover of 'Farmer John' broke them to a national audience and helped open doors for Mexican-American bands at a time when major labels largely ignored them.
